He died on 9 Apr 1900 in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma. He was buried in the Bird Creek Cemetery, Kingfisher, Kingfisher County, OK.

Ira and Nettie must have moved to Neutral City, No-Mans-Land, Oklahoma shortly after they were married on 8 Mar 1886 because their first child was born in Oklahoma in January of 1887. Based on one of the newspaper articles listed below they moved from No-Mans-Land to Kingfisher County, Oklahoma in July of 1889.
"The Free Press", dated July 26, 1894: “Ira E. Norton - is of English descent, 34 years of age, and has a wife and 3 children, all boys. His occupation was that of a farmer and broom-maker and he came to Oklahoma from Neutral City, No-Mans-Land, July 12, 1889. He settled on the SW/4 32-17-5 and his P.O. address is Wandel. [“Pioneers of Kingfisher County 1889-1976,” published by the Kingfisher County Historical Society, 1976.]
"The Free Press" dated Thursday April 12, 1900: "We have learned of an accident that may result fatally. Mr. Ira E. Norton, a farmer living in the south part of Excelsior township, was on horseback in pursuit of a jackrabbit last Saturday. The horse fell and threw him upon the ground. It seems that he fell upon his shoulder and head, and was picked up in an unconscious condition. Up to Monday he had not regained consciousness and Dr. Stone expressed doubts of his recovering. Mr. Norton is a well to do farmer and a man who enjoys the respect of all who know him." Later -"Mr. Norton died Tuesday." William C. Griggs "Will" died at the age of 27, it is not known what he died from. His wife Alta Bell died 51 years later, never remarried and was buried next to him at the Edgewood Cemetery in Chillicothe, MO. It is not known what his middle initial "C" stands for, however his maternal grandfather's name was "William Cramer" thus it is assumed the "C" stands for "Cramer." Thus his full name would have been William Cramer Griggs.

William married Alta Elma BELL daughter of Justice BELL and Ellen Amelia PERCY on 5 Mar 1894 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO by Rev. J.W. French. Alta was born on 25 Jul 1870 in Prophetstown, Whiteside County, IL. She died on 12 Oct 1948 in Oregon City, Clackamas County, OR. In the 1920 census Alta is living in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri where she is listed as a “Keeper-Restaurant” with two boarders. Her two daughters are no longer living with her. Based on her obituary, Alta moved to Oregon in about 1923. In a letter between relatives dated 10 Oct 1932 it is stated that Alta was still living in Oregon at that time but was in poor health and was planning on returning to St. Joseph, Missouri. Apparently she decided to remain in Oregon because we next find a record of her death in the “Oregon Death Index, 1903-98”. She died on 12 Oct 1948 in Oregon City, Clackamas County, Oregon.

William C. Griggs and wife Alta Elma Bell

William and Alta had the following children:

38 F i Mary Alta GRIGGS was born 1 about 1894/1895 in Missouri. She died 2 before 12 Oct 1948.

Mary Alta Griggs married George Sullivan on 29 Jul 1912 in Jackson County, Missouri. Mary was seventeen at the time, therefore her mother Alta had to consent to the marriage. The marriage apparently did not last long because Mary wed again on 22 Oct 1914 to Ernest R. Templeton. It is unclear what happened to George Sullivan, Mary’s first husband. But because Mary was still using her maiden name at the time of her second marriage it appears they might have gotten a divorce or perhaps an annulment.
Mary married (1) George SULLIVAN on 29 Jul 1912 in Jackson County, MO. George was born about 1888.
Mary married (2) Ernest R. TEMPLETON son of Nelson W. TEMPLETON and Cora Belle BERRY on 22 Oct 1914 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO. Ernest was born about 1889/1890 in Missouri.

The only information that we have found on Ernest is on his and Mary's “Application For License To Marry” where he states that he was from Maryville, Nodaway County, Missouri. The only census where we find Ernest and Mary as a married couple is in the 1915 Iowa State Census where they are residing in Shenandoah, Page County, Iowa. Nothing further has been found on them, except that based on her mother’s obituary, Mary died sometime prior to 12 Oct 1948.
39 F ii Lois Wilda E. GRIGGS was born 1 about 1896/1897 in Missouri.
Lois married (1) Roby HERROD son of Walter HERROD and Catherine ____?____ on 25 Apr 1912 in Independence, Jackson County, MO. Roby was born on 8 Feb 1883 in Nottingham, England.

Lois Wilda E. Griggs married Roby Herrod on 25 Apr 1912 in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. Like Mary her sister, she too was underage and her mother Alta had to consent to the marriage. It is not known when this marriage ended.
Lois married (2) Hugh Wakefield BOWEN son of Hugh J. BOWEN and Millie E. ____?____ about 1912/1913. Hugh was born on 20 Mar 1890 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO.

In the obituary of her mother Alta, Lois is referred to as “Mrs. Lois Bowen” and has one surviving son Lloyd and one surviving granddaughter, both living in Kansas City, Missouri. Lois and her second husband, Hugh W. Bowen, are first found in the 1920 census in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri as follows:

Hugh W. Bowen, head, age 29, born Missouri
Lois W. Bowen, wife, age 22, born Missouri
Lloyd W. Bowen, son, age 5, born Missouri

They are then found in the 1930 census still in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri living with Hugh’s parents as follows:

Hugh J. Bowen, head, age 70, born Tennessee
Millie E. Bowen, wife, age 66, born Missouri
Hugh W. Bowen, son, age 40, born Missouri
Virginia L. Bowen, daughter, age 38, born Missouri
Lois W. Bowen, daughter-in-law, age 33, born Missouri
Lloyd W. Bowen, grandson, age 15, born Missouri

Based on the 1930 census, Hugh and Lois would have been married in about 1913, thus Lois’s first marriage, like her sister Mary, must have been short lived because her first marriage to Roby Herrod was on 25 Apr 1912. It is not known when Hugh and Lois moved to Oregon, but obviously it had to be sometime after 1930. Based on her obituary, Alta had already moved to Oregon in about 1923.
Lois married (3) Jacob C. HAFNER.
