This webpage is dedicated to Connie (Brown) Griggs, without whom the history of this family would still be obscure. Connie has spent many years researching her husband’s family for the benefit of her children. Connie is always more than willing to share the results of her hard work, for that we will always be indebted to her. The Family ofJohn Griggs and Marth Schenkof Newburgh, New York![]() Woodcut of Newburgh skyline from the Hudson in 1842 IntroductionThe John Griggs who married Martha Schenk appears to be the John Griggs who was identified as “John Griggs of Bruckyn” (Brooklyn, Kings County, New York) in an indenture relating to a land purchase in Ulster County, NY on 29 Feb 1768. Based on his age and the fact that he was from Brooklyn, Kings County, New York this John-4 Griggs appears to be the son of John-3 Griggs (John-2, John-1 of Gravesend, Kings County, NY) and Anne Williamsen daughter of Willem Williemsen and Mayken Pieters Wyckoff. Y-DNA test of a descendant of the above John-4 Griggs confirms that this line descends from the John-1 Griggs of Gravesend line. Table of ContentsPlease send emails to: Frank L.
